Sefl-assesment

In this class, I had big progress on my writing skills. There is no better way to get better at writing that writing, and I can prove it. We wrote three different types of essays that teach us different skills and strategies. Thanks to these assignments my writing has had progress and also my learning in writing skills. In this class, I learn that a paragraph those not need to have a minimum of five sentences. Also, I learn to use the library to get resources that could be in research and learning. I learned how to create a website to make my portfolio. I have learned big and small details to make me a better writer. One of the interesting things that I learned in this class about my self, s that I am very descriptive as a writer, I put many details in my writing.

The first essay was a literacy narrative, which I structured as a timeline starting when I began to learn English and where I am now. In my narrative, I believe that the large majority of immigrant children can relate to the difficulty that I had to learn English since I came to the country as a young child. I used pathos so the reader could feel what I was feeling at that time, and that way they can identify better. In my literacy narrative, I stated that reading was an important key for me to learn English. To support my point I used “Reading and Writing Are Not Connected” by Ellen Carillo. Which says that teachers/professors need to teach writing and reading simultaneously. This is the chapter came from the book Bad Ideas About Writing which Is a credible source to you because it was published in a recognizable anniversary in Virginia. Another source was The Demographic Statistical Atlas Of the United States, this website shows a statistical percentage or numerical quantity of people’s language, race, sex, nationality, etc. This source is a little bit bias to trust since it was updated about a year ago. They have the data based on the United States Census Bureau which website ends at “.gov” which means it is from the government. From this essay, I learned about the writing progress because of the reading that we used. Also as I said before, I learned to recognize and practice key rhetorical terms and strategies when engaged in writing situations, such as logos, pathos, and ethos.

The second essay was the most difficult for me to write, the exploratory essay. It was very difficult for me to write this essay because I did not know how to identify writing gender or discourse communities. However, I did learn the different styles of writing and how the format is different depending on the discourse communities or genre, and where it was to inform or entertain. When my professor gave me my grade, which was pretty low, he also gave me an explanation of why he game me that grade, and it helped fully for me to understand what I did wrong. and what I missed. After I re-read my exploratory essay, and mt grade explanation sheet,  I learned how to Locate research sources, including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles, in the library’s databases or archives and on the internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias, by understanding and engaging in a variety of discourse communities even though it was difficult for me to understand at first.

The third and most long essay was the research paper. I really like that assignment because it was the opportunity to pick our own topic. Picking your own topic helps you to write better because you have will be interested in that topic that passionate you and that you will have the freedom to write what you have to say about that issue or topic. From this assignment, I learned so much, so many different things. I learn how to find good articles in the library that could help me support my thesis. I learned how to do a bibliography, which is very helpful to organize your ideas. I learned and practiced the systematic application of dating conventions. the right way to cite other works. I learned to understand and use print and digital technologies to help me verify that I am correct with what I say. One of the things that I put into the most in this research was the strategy of Composing texts that integrate my posture and language with appropriate sources using strategies such as summary, critical analysis, interpretation, synthesis, and argumentation. I used a plethora of resources and part of them were a woman telling their stories. I made them part of my research by summarizing it and saying why her true story matters. Also, I did some critical analysis with many articles, to see if they were going to help me prove my point. I read many argumentations that went against the topic that I choose, and that helped me to prove why I write by saying why they are wrong.
